Abstract：The watersoluble saltcore has the good collapsibility． The saltcore can i
mprove the production efficiency of the castings which have the complicated inne
r shape． The research progress on the watersoluble saltcore in recent years
is summarized． The ideal properties of the saltcore are explained． The thr
ee main preparation methods of the saltcore are summarized， compared and anal
yzed． Then， some inorganic salts used for the watersoluble saltcore are in
troduced． Finally， it is pointed that the melt casting method may be one of th
e future research directions of the preparation of the watersoluble saltcore
