Numerical Simulation on Liquid Filling Process of Large Complex Ductile Iron Casting

Abstract:The establishment of threedimensional grid model and calculation of the corres
ponding boundary conditions are based on the the geometry and technology program

are Procast to simulat the fluid flow. The result shows that, during the process
 of vertical pouring at the bottom of the casting, The filling times are accordi
ng with the actual producing time. But the filling process is bumpy and stirred
flows of liquid metal occurred at the top of the casting which is layout many hi
ghpressure oil holes and have many defects in production. The resistance of f
illing can be reduced and the velocity of liquid metal can be speeded up. The ph
enomenon of stirred flows of liquid metals can be reduced by the arrangement of
cold iron.
