Investigation on Relationship Between the Intrusive Blowhole and the Gating Parameters of Plate Shaped Iron Castings

Abstract:Blowhole defects are formed when the increment of gas pressure at the mold/metal interface exceeds that pressure generated by the liquid metal ascending. The quantitative relationship between the gas pressure in between mold/metal interface and the rate of the liquid metal ascendingand and the permeability of the mold were discussed. It was found that the mathematics quantitative relationships were existing in between the  permeability parameters. And the calculation formula and tables of various parameters in gating system could be obtained, which could be used as the reference for preventing the blowhole defects.
