Abstract:Surface modification treatment on pure magnesium was conducted at 400 ℃ in vacuum conditions. The effect of diffusion time on microstructure of alloyed layers was investigated. The microstructure and microhardness of zincyttrium codiffusing layer were investigated with OM, SEM, EDS, XRD and microhardness test. The results showed that the thickness of diffusion layer increases gradually with prolonging diffusion time. The microstructure of zincyttrium codiffusing layer is uniformly and dense. The layer is composed of αMg saturate solution, intermetallic compound Mg7Zn3 and Iphase(Mg30Zn60Y10). The microhardness of the specimen surface layer has greatly improved.
