Microstructure Analysis of Zincyttrium Codiffusing Layer

Abstract:Surface modification treatment on pure magnesium was conducted at 400 ℃ in vacuum conditions. The effect of diffusion time on microstructure of alloyed layers was investigated. The microstructure and microhardness of zincyttrium codiffusing layer were investigated with OM, SEM, EDS, XRD and microhardness test. The results showed that the thickness of diffusion layer increases gradually with prolonging diffusion time. The microstructure of zincyttrium codiffusing layer is uniformly and dense. The layer is composed of αMg saturate solution, intermetallic compound Mg7Zn3 and Iphase(Mg30Zn60Y10). The microhardness of the specimen surface layer has greatly improved.
