In order to improve the mechanical properties of Zn-Mg biodegradable alloys, Zn-1.2Mg-xCu (x=0, 1.2, 2.2) zinc alloys were prepared by metal mold casting. The effects of Cu content on the microstructure and mechanical properties of zinc alloy were studied. The results show that the microstructure of the zinc alloy is mainly composed of η-Zn (Zn solid solution) and Mg2Zn11 intermetallic compound. When the content of Cu is 2.2% , the intermetallic compound ε-CuZn5 appears. The microhardness and tensile strength of the zinc alloy increase with increasing Cu content and reach the maximum value at 2.2%Cu, which are 227 MPa and 148 HV, respectively. Fracture analysis shows that the fracture mode of Zn alloy is mainly cleavage fracture.
